About Bon Secour, AL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Bon Secour is an unincorporated community located in Baldwin County, Alabama. As of 2010 the population was approximately 750 residents. The community lies along the Bon Secour River, and the name comes from the French phrase translating to “safe harbor.” The town is located in a secluded part of the inner coast of the Fort Morgan peninsula, and it is about 45 miles west of Pensacola. Bon Secour was greatly impacted by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, causing many people in the fishing industry to lose their jobs.

Due to this community’s location on the Bon Secour Bay, outdoor recreation including fishing and boating are especially popular. The Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge is located in this community and has been named one of the top ten natural wonders in the state. This is an especially popular place to view non-game birds that have migrated south during the winter, and to some birders it has been described as “a birding Mecca.”

Other attractions can be accessed in nearby Gulf Shores. Families with young children might enjoy a trip to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo or Waterville USA. Historical sites include Battleship Memorial Park and the Fort Morgan Historic Site, while outdoor activities can be enjoyed at Hummingbird Ziplines or the Gulf Adventure Center at Gulf State Park.

Bon Secour residents enjoy a mild climate throughout the course of the year. During the winter, average high temperatures tend to reach about 65 degrees. While it may seem like home heating system are unnecessary, cold snaps do push into the area, so it is recommended that residents invest in a heat pump to keep their homes warm when needed. However, climate control systems do become a necessity in the summer when average high temps reach the upper-80s, especially since the community’s coastal location brings high humidity. Residents are wise to have their central air conditioning units serviced during the spring to ensure that they are working properly.
